Busy October!

We had a really fun, and busy, October in the 6th grade!

Here are some of the highlights:

Getting ready for the Fun Run

When we heard that there would be a contest for the class with the most spirit during the Fun Run we pulled out all our class spirit and put our best effort into transforming our class in to a crew of dastardly pirates! We spent a morning building our class community. We constructed a sail boat (The USS Travelin' Waffles) complete with a sail that could be raised and lowered, a figurehead in the shape of a waffle, an a cardboard cannon. We also had two banners, a team flag and costumes. We were quite the sight!

The Fun Run

We looked awesome marching up to the Fun Run in full costume, with our banners and ship! We had beautiful weather and everyone had a lot of fun showing spirit and getting some exercise for a good cause.

Prize Day!!!

We won the spirit contest! Our prize was a hamster ball party. Everyone got a turn to run over their classmates with the hamster ball... including me and Ms. O!

Creating our Camp-- Area and Perimeter Review

During our math unit on area and perimeter we pretended to be stranded on a desert island. We had to use our math skills to find the area of our island, plan how much land area we would need for a farm, the amount of fabric needed to create clothes and the area that we would need for a ranch. As a culmination to this unit we were transported to the camp on our island. We figured out how many tents we would need for our crew, learned about people who had gone missing at sea and how surface area was used to find them, and found the area of some sea creatures.
